DIY Wedding Stuff

I am not the most “crafty” person in the world but we do enjoy

doing stuff like this and we had a lot fun with our wedding.

We got compliments on a lot of our personal touches so,

at various people's requests, I thought I’d pass a few of them

along in case anyone wanted to do something similar.

Guest Book

We bought an ivory-colored
Kolo Newbury scrapbook

and completely customized it.

We put a picture of us in the front of the book:

then for the inside, we printed our names and the wedding date at the bottom

of each page and decorated the books with a variety of pictures of us,

everything from baby pictures, to bad 70s pictures to HS graduation pics to

recent pictures of us on vacations.

We sized all the pictures first so they were similar then printed them out,

mounted them and pasted them on:

Our guests really loved it and people were leafing through it all night.

People signed the book around all the pictures and it had more of

a fun “autograph book” feel to it, since people could write wherever and whatever

they wanted, as opposed to a more stodgy “sign name here” guest book.

GREAT TIP COURTESY OF OUR WEDDING COORDINATOR:

Since nearly everyone at a wedding will say goodbye to at least one set of

parents at the night, have your parents remind everyone to sign the

guest book as people leave. As guests left our folks just told people,

“don’t forget to sign the guest book” and literally everyone did.

I don’t think we had anyone at the wedding who forgot to sign it.

Centerpieces

While cut flowers are gorgeous, I really wanted live flowers, mainly since it was

a spring wedding, and that seemed appropriate. After getting many exorbitant prices

for centerpieces, we made these - they came about $11 each and took no time to assemble.

We searched EVERYWHERE from Christmas Tree Shops to Marshalls to

Michael’s to AC Moore and finally found these ceramic vases at my most hated

store, Building 19 (guess I can’t hate them anymore!)! Since our honeymoon

destination was Italy and our tables were named after places in Italy we were

visiting, these fit our theme perfectly. We bought about $6 worth of Spanish moss

at Michaels then potted plants at a nice nursery in Woburn. All potted plants were

mixed red/burgundy colored flowers to match the bridesmaids dresses. We just

popped the plants into the ceramic vases spread some moss around the top and voila!

$11 centerpieces that we got many great compliments on...

Table Numbers

As mentioned, we were off to Italy for our honeymoon so we named our tables

after places in Italia we were going to visit. For table numbers, I went online and

copied my favorite picture of each destination and imported it into Microsoft Publisher

(can’t afford Photoshop! ;-)). We then sized each picture about 5 x 5, washed the

image out a little and put the table name over the picture. After printing out two copies

we mounted the photos (so they were two-sided) on poster board. The silver number

holder came from Big Tray who were easy and efficient to deal with.

Actually these looked a lot better & brighter than in this picture:

If you are a scrapbooker, this works out really well… I am putting all our table numbers

in our Italy Honeymoon scrapbook and they look pretty cool in there.

Placecards

We did CD favors and attached placecards to them so people got their favor

and their placecard as soon as they walked into the reception. We bought blank

Placecards at Keepsake Favors and printed them out ourselves. On each

placecard we printed the names and table numbers plus the Italy picture

that coincided with the one on the table name.

CD Favors

When we designed the covers of our CD favors, we really just wanted to keep

things simple so we took a picture of my parent’s cake topper, which we also

used as the actual cake topper at the wedding. On the back of the CD we

listed our songs and inside the CD, we had “liner notes” full of thank yous.

Our CD favor (no idea why upload is so bad & fuzzy):

And the actual cake topper at the wedding. Last seen at my parent’s wedding in 1957!
